About
What is Interface?
Interface is an artists’ network for County Durham. The project is currently managed by DCA (Durham City Arts) on behalf of the County Durham Strategic Arts Officers’ Group (CDSAOG). DCA will be managing the project until March 2009, after which point it is anticipated the network will become member-led and managed.
Who can become a member?
Artists and creative practitioners of any discipline (e.g. painters, sculptors, drama practitioners, actors, musicians, dancers, writers, etc) who either live in County Durham or work predominantly within the County. You must be a practising or aspiring creative practitioner, and creativity must form a significant part of your life (whether or not you actually make a living from it).
How can I get involved?
Sign up for membership via the ‘Join us’ section of the website.
What are the benefits to being a member?
At the start of the project, DCA ran a series of Professional Development training sessions including such subjects as Marketing Your Product, Networking and Business Planning, to name a few. Handout packs are available for each session, and Interface members can download a copy from the website (see the ‘Resources’ section).
Monthly networking events, organised for the network, are an opportunity to meet other artists and discuss issues relating to your practice. Guest speakers are often brought in to lead such discussion or aid with professional development.
The website is a key benefit to joining Interface – it acts as a central hub of information for Durham-based artists and as a portal for networking and opportunities. Each member is entitled to their own micro-site, onto which you can load your contact details, eight images of your work and information about your work as an artist.
Who is funding the project?
The County Durham Strategic Arts Officers Group (CDSAOG) originally identified the need for an artists’ network within the County and put forward a pot of money for the development of such, which was in turn matched by Arts Council England North East (ACENE). The CDSAOG then put in an application to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Cultural Sector Development Initiative (CSDI) which has provided further match funding for the project up until September 2008. CDSAOG will continue to support the management of the network until March 2009.
